Advanced shrink tubing solutions for commercial applications: Part 1

Advanced shrink tubing made from virgin plastic materials using modern extrusion techniques has become an indispensable part of various commercial applications. Ranging from watertight insulation of connectors to corrosion protection for various metal pipes and conduits, these tubes provide a variety of solutions for different industries. Various types of GREMCO tubes are available with a wide range of properties, including temperature resistance, chemical resistance, abrasion resistance, and flexibility. These properties vary depending on the material and application. Therefore, our tubing is ideally suited for industrial applications. Here is an overview of some innovative hose applications for commercial use:

Advanced shrink tubing at wire harnesses for engines:

GREMCOs advanced shrink tubing is characterized by an impressive versatility that makes it perfect for various industrial applications, such as on wire harnesses. One such application is on wiring harnesses for engines. Due to the extreme conditions in the engine compartment, tubing systems require high levels of temperature resistance, fire resistance, chemical resistance, flexibility, and abrasion resistance. The FITCOTUBE® FT200 shrink tubing made from cross-linked elastomers is an ideal example of the aforementioned area of application. This highly flexible, abrasion-resistant heat-shrink tubing with excellent fuel resistance is ideally suited to the conditions in the engine compartment thanks to its certified flame retardancy and temperature resistance of up to 150°C.

Wire and component protection:

Cable and component protection is one of the most common applications for advanced shrink tubing, particularly in the industrial sector. This requires both mechanical and chemical resistance to ensure adequate protection of the components. Thanks to its abrasion resistance and excellent chemical resistance, GREMCO’s FITCOTUBE® FT175 and FITCOTUBE® FT190 heat-shrink tubing made from cross-linked PVDF are ideal options for protecting sensors and similar components. In addition, the tubing guarantees temperature resistance up to 175°C and 190°C respectively, certified flame resistance, and a semi-rigid nature. If more flexibility is required, the FITCOTUBE® FT275 shrink tubing is the ideal alternative. Although it has the same basic properties as FT175, it is more flexible and has a lower shrink temperature.

Mechanical strain and bending relief for cables and wires:

The mechanical strain and bend relief of cables and wires is also primarily an industrial application. Excellent flexibility of advanced shrink tubing is required for this area of application.  Furthermore, good abrasion resistance and general resistance to external influences are advantageous. The FITCOTUBE® FT100 heat shrink tubing made from cross-linked polyolefin is therefore ideal for these applications. Thanks to its extraordinary flexibility, the tubing provides relief for the components to be protected whilst offering good mechanical resistance. In addition, the heat-shrink tubing is permanently heat-resistant up to a maximum temperature of 135°C and certified flame-retardant in the colored version. The tubing is available in colored and transparent versions.
