FITCOTUBE® FT555 heat shrink tubing: properties and application

The heat shrink tubing Fitcotube® FT555 counts among the thin-walled heat shrinkable tubing made of polyolefin and represents an important product of GREMCO GmbH. The group of polyolefins, which are produced from various energy sources by means of polymerization, includes some best-known plastics such as polyethylene, polypropylene, and polymethylpentene. These are distinguished by their variable and simple processing possibilities.

Properties of Fitcotube® FT555

Fitcotube® FT555 heat shrink tubing combines high quality with excellent affordability. Due to its extra-thin wall thickness and high flexibility, it is particularly easy and fast to process. The radiation-crosslinked tubing is completely halogen-free and complies with the requirements of RoHS and REACH. In addition, the sleeving meets the requirements of the manufacturer’s specification VW 50 180 as well as VW 50 181. Furthermore, the Fitcotube® FT555 shrink tubing can be certified as flame-retardant per the FMVSS 302 standard.

The permanent temperature of the shrink tubing covers the range from – 70 °C to + 135 °C. However, for short periods, the application under temperatures of up to +225 °C is possible. For a complete shrinkage, a minimum shrinkage temperature of + 90 °C is required, resulting in a shrinkage ratio of 2:1. Nevertheless, shrinkage starts at 60 °C. The tubing is available as a standard only in black color, as well as in spools or on request in cut and printed form in the required dimension. Other colors are available on request. Depending on the selected version of the shrink tubing, the wall thickness varies from 0.31 to 1.40 mm. The inner diameter after shrinkage ranges from 0.60 to 63.50 mm.

Applications

Mountable heat shrink tubing Fitcotube® FT555 is used for racketing, insulation, and marking of wires and cables in various industrial applications. However, the main application of tubing is in the automotive sector. Here, shrink tubing is primarily used in headlights, where the non-outgassing tubing is used to prevent fogging. Consequently, Fitcotube® FT555 shrink tubing meets all VW standards required for this purpose. In the meantime, our tubing is used by all well-known OEMs as well as their system suppliers for lighting technology at cable splices in headlights.
